Ahhh it’s Autumn, my favourite time of year! I couldn’t be more happy for this season. I can snuggle up in my favourites blankets, drinking hot chocolate whilst wearing my fluffy pyjamas and socks. Who doesn’t love a cosy night in? I always look forward to this season as the leaves start changing colour, and I can finally start wearing my jumpers and coats again. The sun is setting sooner in the evenings and the temperatures are slowly cooling (thank god!) as we leave Summer behind.
I’ve had a really amazing Summer, with some lovely holidays to Amsterdam for my 18th and Llandudno. Not to mention some other highlights include completing my A-Levels and achieving amazing grades in each subject, getting my first car, passing my car theory test, as well as being accepted for an apprenticeship in my dream career field Graphic Design. So, to sum it up it has been a really awesome summer. I have done so much last season and it’s nice to look back on accomplishments as you progress forward in life.
You may have already read quite a few posts about Autumn related topics already, but really, who isn’t obsessed with all things cosy and Autumn related?! With this blog post, I really wanted to talk about all of the many reasons as to why I love this season. I am fully aware this blog post is a little bit too soon for Autumn as it officially begins on the 22nd but there’s no harm in getting started early! So here it is my top five reasons as to why I love this time of year…
1. Rainy Days and Chilly Mornings
There’s nothing like the sharp, fresh feeling of cool air on your chest as you step outside in the morning. It’s frosty enough that you can see your breath in the air but it’s not too cold that you’re dithering. Gloves, a hot drink in a thermal cup and a warm coat is enough to keep warm and you feel the refreshing chill in the air. I love mornings like this the most when the sky is a lovely shade of blue and the leaves crunch below your feet from the frost. I still enjoy kicking piles of leaves around when I walk through a forest or park.
Another thing I love is really rainy days. I don’t enjoy being caught out in the rain and getting soaked but when I’m wrapped up in a warm house I really don’t mind. The sound of rain pouring down as is lashes against the windows from the wind is such a calming noise and gives a sense of ambience to the room. When there are days like this I enjoy putting on the fairy lights as it gives just a touch of light in certain areas of the room without being too overpowering.
2. Autumnal Photography
Oh, I do love taking pictures in Autumn. The days are hazier and the lighting becomes less harsh, this leads to some good photography conditions and I tend to take my favourite pictures this time of year. It gets me out at the crack of dawn to try to capture the misty mornings as it is so eerie. It creates a blank canvas in landscapes and allows you to get creative with your environment.
I rely heavily on natural lighting to take photographs, so it becomes tougher for me to take good quality photos as the evenings get darker sooner as there isn’t enough natural light to enhance the photograph. It can become tricky to plan photos that require natural lighting, as you need to plan well in advance to make sure the photos are well composed and lit.
But that is something I am more than happy to compromise with as the Autumnal Props and breathtaking landscapes are worth it. If you need some inspiration for your photos this Season then I recommend Pinterest and We Heart It for some ideas.
3. Cosy Jumpers and Fluffy Socks
I have mentioned this before, but I SUCK at summer clothing! I hate how the weather makes clothes stick to you and I struggle to find cool clothes that I feel comfortable and confident wearing. So I spent those months of the year feeling real ‘ick’ about what I wear. But, as soon as the weather starts to drop I soon enter my element…
The big chunky knits, warm coats, scarfs and boots come out in force and I love every inch of them. I have recently purchased a few items of clothing on a recent shopping trip with my mum, so keep an eye out for a haul on that as it was very inspired by Autumn. I think I own more jumpers than I do tops but I love every one of them. They range from a very thick heavy jumper to a more fine knit polo neck. Each serving their own purpose as the weather changes and fluctuates throughout the up and coming months.
Autumn is literally the perfect excuse to wear everything oversized to stay warm and cosy. I love being able to layer up and really snuggle in what you’re wearing when out and about but as soon as you hit the trains or shops those layers come straight off as it becomes to hot to function!
4. Candles and Fairy Lights
I have mentioned in this post that I love putting on my fairy lights as they can instantly make a room seem cosy and warm despite the cold weather outside. About 2 years ago I received some waterfall fairy lights as a gift at Christmas and I knew instantly where they could go!
I have an alcove above my bed from my fitted wardrobes. This created a great base to put two poles across and drape the fairy lights down. At first I put a net curtain in front of them but this gathered too much dust and looked messy. So after removing the curtains I have been left with a warm source of light that brightens up the darkest part of my room. If you are interested in these fairy lights you can purchase them > here <
I also enjoy candles, obviously. I don’t tend to purchase season specific candles unless it’s for Christmas. But this time of year candles seem the perfect choice for room decor and I find myself reaching for them a lot more this time of year.
5. Hot Drinks and Pumpkin Treats
It didn’t take me long before I was heading to Starbucks to buy myself a Pumpkin Spice Frappe. I tend to enjoy cold drinks more than hot ones so this option is a great choice for me. I love this Frappe it’s a nice change from always having the Caramel drinks that they sell there.
Not everyone will be a fan of this drink because of the spices but I absolutely love it! But I do find myself asking for a few more cups of teas and hot lattes when the days get colder to help warm me up. Add a few biscuits and I’m good to go.
I hope you have enjoyed my blog post on five reasons why I love this season. Do you love Autumn, if so what is you favourite thing about this time of year? I’d love to hear!
