I cannot believe how quickly this first month of 2018 has flown by. So I thought I would recap on some of the things I have been loving this past month. A few of them were items that I received at Christmas so I was able to take full advantage of them this past month. I have been trying out some new items as well and they have quickly become part of my daily routine.
I did three favourites blog posts last year in July, September and October and they captured some of the things that I was loving in those months. This year I would like to get a ‘Monthly Favourites’ out at least every two months so I can look back at the end of the year on items that I really loved.
Just before Christmas I decided to invest in a new camera, after a lot of thought and consideration. I did a lot of research and it was a decision between the 6D Mark 2 and the 5D Mark 3. After asking my Granddad he recommended I get the 5D which is a camera he owns himself. So I made the purchase on Black Friday along with a 50mm lens which was a Christmas present from my Mum.
I was able to try them out earlier this month on some friends from High School. It was a lot of fun to experiment with the new camera and lens and well as being able to see the massive jump in quality from my old 1200D to this one. It’s safe to say I fell in love and I am over the moon with the purchase. I look forward to trying it out in months to come with different styles of photos.
What I love most about the camera and the lens is the massive jump in quality. My 1200D was my first ever camera which was brought for me two years ago as a Christmas present. I still love that camera to pieces, it will always hold a special place in my heart. But I wanted to work on my photography more and it has been worth every penny.
Also featured in this picture below is a plant me and mum picked up over the weekend. It’s a fake plant but I love it soooo much! The real version of this plant seems IMPOSSIBLE to find in the UK. All I can say is, come on IKEA I need this plant in my life!
This company is something that has been on my radar for a few months now. I was suffering from really bad acne. I was plagued with it for the best part of a year. So in my desperation I searched high and low for skin care products to help my problematic skin. This search ranged from the more high-end products from Clinique to the chirpy cheap ones from Simple. Clinique worked okay, but the price tag didn’t justify the results for me so my search went on.
Then, like something sent from heaven, The Ordinary seemed to come to my rescue. I went on a rampage on the website. Ordering a variety of different things in the hope that it would help my skin. I think my collection has now grown to around 8 different products. But the one item which really made a difference was the ‘Niacinamide 10% + Zinc 1%‘. This stuff works miracles and it has made a massive improvement. So not only is this my January Favourites but this would be my favourite purchase of 2017! For £5 who can complain, I know I’m not.
This was something I had been eyeing up for a few years now. Whenever you would walk into the Muji store you are usually greeted by machines kicking out smoke. Now, I’m a huge fan of incense and burning candles but I find these can ‘choke’ up the air especially in a room which is quite small.
But this smoke machine really caught my eye. Mum also brought me this for Christmas and it has been on almost every single day. All you add is some Essential Oil to change-up the scents. My favourite scents from the Muji range are the Orange ones, so Blood Orange and Orange and Cinnamon are among the most used. I have also picked up some essential oils from The Body Shop to try them out and add some variation.
Even as I’m writing this blog post, my diffuser is smoking away with the Blood Orange Oil. During the evening I add the lights to give it more of a cosy feel and during the day I leave it off. Once of the great things with this diffuser is the fact you can set how long you want it to burn for. It can range from 30 minutes to 180 minutes. And it automatically shuts off when there is no water left inside or it has reached its time limit. If you are a fan of candles then I would recommend giving this a try as you will probably save a lot of money in the long run.
You would think, everyone who had moderately long hair would own a curling wand… well at the ripe old age of 18 I received a curling wand. This was something that I also received at Christmas by a member of my family. I never though I would use it as often as I have this past month. It has quickly become part of my routine on days when I dress more smartly.
I’ve never really use hot tools on my hair, straightens take too long and are unnecessary. And hair dryers are for the nights when I have a shower too late in the evening and I don’t want to go to bed with wet hair. I was thinking about getting a curling wand for a while now but I never wanted to spend money on it.
It is safe to say this curling wand has changed my hair game. It takes me 10 minutes to curl my hair, I’m always shocked every time by how efficient this is. I can see this being used a lot more in the following months for special occasions and important events (I still enjoy the heatless life).
This one is a bit quirky but I picked it up in December and I just think it is so adorable! This is a different type of plant pot and I haven’t seen anything like it before. One thing that I love so much is the fact the plant becomes the Bears Hair. There was a type of Ivy in it previously but that died and didn’t last too long. It gave the Polar Bear a mop head kind of look. So I picked up a new plant in IKEA the other day and it gives the appearance of a Mohawk, which is so cute! I found a few different animal planters on Etsy ranging from dogs to frogs, you can find them > here
So this has been my first monthly favourite which features a lot of the things I have been loving the past few weeks. There is a wide variety of categories as I love plenty of things in these different areas.
I would love to hear what you have been enjoying in January. Feel free to leave your ‘Favourites’ Blog Post and I will be sure to give it a read. Or just let me know what your most used item was this past month.
