Its officially summer guys! June 21st marks the Astronomical Summer for the United Kingdom. And what a wonderful time of year it is.
The weather has been glorious this past week and I’ve been embracing every moment of it. Every time there’s been this glorious sunshine I have always been stuck in a stuffy classroom, never really getting the chance to enjoy the weather. For the first time in years I’m not stuck in school and it’s just wonderful.
The temperatures are the hottest the UK has seen in June for over 20 years, but of course it never lasts with thunderstorms predicted at the end of the week… but that’s the UK for you.
It has been so lovely to hear the ice-cream men making their rounds in local parks and streets with children playing and screaming with delight. The sounds of lawnmowers humming away with the rich smell of a BBQ wafting through the air. It truly makes it feel like summer for me.
But my favourite part of summertime has to be the cool evenings. The sun has set and the birds are singing their last songs for the day. The intense heat from the sun has gone, but it leaves a warm evening ambience. As you sit in the garden with friends and family you soak up the atmosphere.
A round of beers, a dash of sunblock and a lot of laughs. This makes a British Summertime.
